March 25, 1960 - July 4, 1979Janet Lynn Bunnell, daughter of John and Mary Hochstetler Bunnell, was born March 25, 1960 in Greenfield, Iowa. She died early Wednesday morning, July 4, 1979 after being in a motorcycle accident three miles east of Greenfield.
Janet grew up on the family farm south of Dexter. In 1978 she graduated from Earlham High School where she had participated in track. She was very talented with arts and crafts and enjoyed time spent working on these projects.
In January of 1978 Janet began working at the Earlham Harris House. She remained working there until the time of her death.
Janet will be remembered as kind and loving by her parents, John and Mary; brothers, Steve and Craig; grandmother, Mrs. Elsie Bunnell of Dexter and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Hochstetler of Winterset. Also surviving are many aunts, uncles and cousins and many, many friends.
She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Howard Bunnell.
Burial was in Dexter cemetery.

Thursday, July 12, 1979Motorcycle Accident Kills Earlham Man and Woman
Early in the morning of July 4, the lives of two young people were lost when their motorcycle collided with a horse on the highway about two miles east of Greenfield. Janet Bunnell, 19, of Earlham and Gary Slater, 24, of rural Adel were returning home from a trip to Missouri when the accident occurred.
Janet was a lifelong member of the Earlham community and Gary had lived here until about two years ago. Both were Earlham school graduates.

Services were conducted at the United Methodist church in Dexter on Friday, July 6. The Rev. Robert G. Farr officiated. Music was provided by Robert Lawson at the organ.
Casket bearers were Dennis Brott, Joe College, Gary Crabbs, Bret Edwards, Kim Harris and Mark Harris.
Interment was in the Dexter Cemetery. McKee Funeral Home of Dexter made the arrangements.
