Dale Richard Boyle was born the son of Coradon and Cora Imboden Boyle on the family farm in Penn Township, rural Madison County, Iowa on March 26, 1917 and died of cancer on June 11, 2001 at the U.S.A. Health Care Center in Earlham, Iowa.

Dale attended Penn #5 country school as well as Earlham High School. Dale worked for a few years as a farm hand for his aunt and uncle Roy and Ruth Imboden. He also worked on farms near Clinton and Chariton, Iowa.

Dale served in the U.S. Army during WWII serving in both the Normandy and Northern France Campaigns, where he was wounded and awarded two bronze stars and the purple heart. Dale spent 12 months recovering from two broken legs in a military hospital in Springfield, Missouri.

Dale met Lucille Jobst at the Penn Center School picnic and fell in love. Some years later they were married February 8, 1943. This marriage was blessed with three children; David, Karen, and Ted. Dale and Lucille started farming on a farm southeast of Dexter in June of 1945. In 1949 Dale moved the family to the present family farm south of Earlham.

Dale was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Dexter and also a member of the Winterset American Legion Post #184. Dale served as a member of the Madison County Fair Board for over 35 years and as an election official for Penn Township for many years. Dale was a 3rd generation cemetery township official for Penn Center Cemetery, turning over the books to his son David only a couple years ago.

Dale loved farming and horses. He loved having his grandchildren ride with him in the wagon as he drove his teams in parades. At one time Dale had 28 head of draft horses on the farm. Dale loved to visit with anyone and was considered to be quite a jokester.

Dale leaves the following family to celebrate his life: son David and wife Carolyn of Earlham; son Ted and his wife Vicky of Earlham; daughter Karen Jones and husband Jim of Horseshoe Bay, Texas; sister Mildred Willison of Urbandale, Iowa; 6 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren and 4 step great-grandchildren.

Dale was a loving father, husband, grandfather, and a good friend and neighbor who will be missed by all.

Burial was in Penn Center cemetery.
