March 1901William Thomas Wilson was born at Horsehead, Prince George county, Maryland, March 2, 1832. He was reared and labored on a tobacco plantation where many slaves were kept. He seeing the awful curse of slavery and being bitterly opposed to its existence, came to Iowa in 1856 and settled at Bloomfield, making that his home until August 9, 1862, when he enlisted in Co. He was discharged from the service June 5, 1865, at Washington D.C., just forty miles from his birth place. Shortly after being discharged he returned to Iowa and settled in Wapello county. In 1868 he came to Dallas county where he has ever since lived.
On December 19, 1868, he was married to Mary Jane Bingman. To this union were born two children, William E. and Charles H., both of whom survive him.
On November 3, 1898, he was stricken with paralysis and he has since been a constant sufferer until his death on March 15, 1901. Age 69 years and 13 days.
His last days was spent in constant prayer, and he expressed himself as having hope of eternal life. He was always a firm believer in the religion of Jesus Christ.
The funeral services were held at the Friends church on Saturday, March 16, at two o’clock, conducted by Rev. J. W. Stribling, and the remains were laid away in the Earlham cemetery there to await for muster in by the Great Commander.
