William Virgil Seerley, son of William and Mary Seerley, was born August 8th, 1877 and departed this life November 4th, 1933; aged 56 years and 3 months.

When a young man 33 years of age he joined the Methodist Episcopal Church at Worthington.

Willy, as he was commonly called, possessed a cheerful and friendly disposition, was upright and truthful in all his dealings and lived a life of strength and goodness because his heart was pure.

The nearest and the dearest spot in the world to him, was his home where, with his brothers and sisters, he spent his entire life.

He was a great lover of nature, enjoyed and appreciated the flowers and the trees. He took great pride in caring for his horses and was kind and gentle to all stock. He was active in every movement which seemed for the betterment of his community. He was always ready to assist his friends and neighbors if it lay in his power to do so.

Kind and devoted as he was to his loved ones, words can never express how much Willy will be missed in the many places that he filled. Two sisters died in infancy and four brothers, Horace, Homer, Elwood and Marcelus have departed before and he leaves to mourn, his brothers Bayred, of Greenfield, Frank, Charley and Vick; his sisters, Flora, Grace Ida at home; other relatives and a large circle of friends and neighbors.

WILLIAM V. SEERLEY IS SUDDENLY CALLED

Member of Prominent Pioneer Madison County Family Stricken by Heart Attack After Brief Illness. Funeral Services Were Conducted at Worthington Church Monday.

“A Personal Tribute”

In the passing of William Seerley we have suffered the loss of a friend who held similar views on many of today’s problems. We henceforth, will be denied all except the memory of pleasant hours spent in discussing the early days of this section. Bill had a homely and fitting philosophy that allowed for every frivolous aspect of this modern age. We shall always recall with pleasurable profit his apt formulas for living. M. N.

William Seerley, member of a pioneer family that has occupied the same farm in Madison twp. since before the present Madison County was formed, passed away Saturday at his home eight miles southeast of Earlham. Death came after a short illness with heart trouble. His passing was a surprise to his many friends who had not known that his condition was serious. He had been in apparent good health until a few days before the fatal attack.

Funeral services for the deceased were held Monday afternoon from the Worthington church with hundreds of friends in attendance. The services were in charge of Rev. A. P. Keast, formerly of Winterset. Burial was in the Seerley family plot in Worthington Cemetery, which also is the resting place of Williams’ father and mother who have been pioneering these many years in a country still fairer than that which they helped bring to fruition in this garden spot of earth.
