FORMER RESIDENT COMMITS SUICIDE

Word was received here Tuesday that Steve Harris, a former resident of Macksburg and Winterset, committed suicide Monday at Rockwell City, where he had lived in recent years.

Harris slashed his throat with a razor. He had been in ill health for some time.

Harris had worked as a barber in Macksburg for many years, and also in Winterset before leaving this county. He is survived by his wife, and a daughter.

The body was brought to Winterset Wednesday for burial.

Coordinator's note: Transcribed as published. A search of vital records revealed an Iowa Death Certificate in the name of "Steve Henry Burch", a barber who committed suicide in Rockwell City on March 29, 1937. Burial was at "Macksburg" which is most likely the Moon Cemetery. The attending physician's surname was Harris which somehow crept into the Madisonian obituary.
