Rev. S. W. Milligan of Webster township, an old settler of Madison county, died Tuesday night, just before midnight from nervous prostration and at last a severe attack of erysipelas. Fuller particulars of his life will appear later.

Obituary

Rev. S. W. Milligan was born in Switzerland county, Indiana, Jan. 25, 1825. He was married to Adaline Richmond, April 12, 1849, which happy union continued nearly 52 years. To them were born 7 children, 6 of whom are living. In 1855 he moved to Iowa and the following spring settled in Webster township, Madison county, which was his home till he died March 26th 1901, after a short attack of erysipelas at the age of 76 years, 2 months, he had been suffering from nervous prostration for about 2 years. In early life he united with the M. E. church and was licensed to preach in 1859, shortly after he joined the Des Moines conference. He was in the itinerancy nineteen years doing effective work on fifteen circuits and having as high as 16 appointments on one circuit for which he received $124.00. But he has gone to his reward now for his treasures were laid up in heaven. He leaves a widow to mourn his loss.
