Mary Benz, Earlham

Services for Mary Benz, 69, a native of the Earlham community who died Aug. 30 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines of cancer, were held Friday, Sept. 2, at the Zion Lutheran Church at Dexter with the Rev. David Rempfer officiating. Burial was at the Earlham cemetery.

Born April 27, 1914 at Earlham, she was the daughter of Mike and Pera Riberich Radakovich. She attended Earlham schools and graduated from Earlham High School. She taught in country schools and worked as a nurse's aide at the Dexter Clinic. Mrs. Benz also served as a 4-H leader of the Penn-Qwens, was an active member of the Zion Lutheran Church, and served as a ladies aid chairman, a choir member and Sunday school teacher.

Survivors include her husband, Howard; daughters, Dorothy Dirksen of North Canton, Ohio, and Eleanor Diane Hess of Earlham; brothers, Milosh of Enumclaw, Wash., Fred of Naperville, Ill., George of Earlham and Nick of Indianola; sisters, Mildred Jonhnson of Long Beach, Calif., Helen Riser of Winterset, Dorothy Davis of San Jose, Calif., Sophie Ross of Lodi, Calif., and Anne Breen of Long Beach; and four grandchildren.
