Donald Robert Bennington, 81, of Winterset, died in his home of cancer June 1, 1997. Funeral services were held June 3 at the First United Methodist Church with Pastor Jon Gaul officiating. A Masonic burial service by the Evening Star Lodge No. 43 of Winterset followed at the Fairview Cemetery in Terril.
He was born in Truro on December 2, 1915 to Wm. and Lora (Cobb) Bennington. On May 7, 1938, he married Lola V. Gripp in Spencer. In 1972 he moved to Winterset after living in Ayrshire and Terril. He was a retired farmer and a grocer. He was a member of the Evening Star Masonic Lodge No. 43 and Eastern Star Lodge No. 180, both of Winterset, and the First United Methodist Church in Winterset.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter; one brother; and three sisters.
Surviving relatives include his wife; two daughters, Nadine Jackson and husband Dennis of Terril, and Mary Thomas and husband Vance of Oklahoma City, Okla; one sister, Wilma Bennington of Winterset; six grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Memorials may be directed to the Middle River Hospice.
