Mildred K. Benedict, Winterset

Mildred K. Benedict, 78, of Winterset, died of heart failure on Nov. 20, 1997 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services were Nov. 22 at the First Baptist Church in Winterset with Pastor John Schaull officiating. Graveside burial service followed at the Winterset Cemetery.

She was born on Aug. 2, 1918 in Lorimor, to Glenn and Stella Mae (Lettington) Ballard. In October 1952, she married Delbert Benedict. She was a homemaker and teacher in the country schools of Union County. She was a member of the Lorimor Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years.

She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers.

Surviving relatives include her husband of Winterset, five daughters, Beverly Cave and husband Bill of Stuart; Patricia Banks and husband Fred of Kansas City, Mo.; Sharon Brittain of Raytown, Mo.; Ramona Cunningham of St. Charles; and Becky Westherly and husband Kerry of Des Moines; two sons, Clifford Benedict of Diagonal; and Paul Benedict and wife Robin of Mt. Ayr; 15 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
