December 29, 1904Mrs. Fannie V. Dickinson, wife of Dr. C. L. Dickinson, departed this life at Winterset, Iowa, Dec. 24, 1904, leaving a devoted husband and four children to mourn her loss. Her maiden name was Roby. She was united in marriage with Dr. Dickinson at her home in this county March 22d, 1885.
She was a decendent of two of the pioneer families of this part of the state. Her grandfather, Nathaniel Clark, whom all the old settlers knew quite well, came from Ohio and settled southwest of Winterset on the farm recently owned by P. M. Rhodes in 1854, where he died about twelve years ago. Her father, David Roby, came from Maryland with his father, H. Roby in 1854 and settled west of Winterset on the Caleb Price farm. When four years old her mother died and her father soon removed to California. She therefore made her home with her aunt, Mrs. P. M. Rhodes. Mrs. Wm. Thornburg is also an aunt. She has many other relatives, some have moved away from this locality.
In 1890 Mrs. Dickinson united with the M. E. church, her husband being a life long Methodist. She was of very cheerful disposition and always looked on the bright side of the world and its experiences. About three years ago her health began to fail but she was hopeful and resigned to the last. A short time before her death she said in reply to her husband's anxious inquiry, "All is well, I am going to heaven to see my dear friends who have gone before." With these words of comfort to her husband and calm parting advice to her children, her fair spirit passed to the land of unclouded skies.
