Hazel M. Belding, Winterset

Hazel Marie Belding, 82, died March 16, 2000, at Integrated Health Services in Winterset following a lengthy illness.

A memorial service was held at 10:30 a.m. today (Wednesday, March 22) at the First Presbyterian Church in Earlham with Pastor Mike Evans and the Rev. Eldon Cole officiating. The burial of the cremains was in Union Cemetery, Guthrie Center.

Hazel Belding was born June 4, 1917, to Claude and Nettie (Kinkennon) Hafner of rural Guthrie Center. She graduated from Panora High School in 1937. She went on to teach country school in Guthrie County. On Dec. 24, 1938, she was united in marriage to Robert Belding in Guthrie County. Hazel was a member of the Crossroad Evangelical Free Church in Earlham.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother and a grandson.

She is survived by four sons, Robert Belding (wife Catherine) of Kerrville, Texas, Dwight Belding (wife Lynne) of Earlham, Donald Belding of Des Moines and Dale Belding of Osan Air Base, Korea; three daughters, Rosemary Wiemann (husband Fred) of Audubon, Roselyn Putnam (husband Walt) of Booneville and Rozella Coooper of Earlham; a brother, Dwight Hafner (wife Mamie) of Stuart; two sisters, Geneva Rote of Earlham and Beulah Reeves of Des Moines; 16 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Kuhn Funeral Home in Earlham.
