Virgil Arthur Beals, 96, died January 25, 1993, at Clarke County Hospital in Osceola. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Fri., Jan. 29 at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola with the Rev. Neville Clayton officiating. Visitation will be Thurs. from 7 to 8 p.m. and before the service Fri. from 12 to 1 p.m.. Graveside services will be held at 3:30 p.m. at Bear Creek Cemetery at Earlham.

Mr. Beals was born in Griswold on August 20, 1896 to James and Margaret (Dixon) Beals. He married Gladys Patterson on September 5, 1925 in Huron, S.D. He was a farmer and a school bus driver, living near Earlham and later near New Virginia. He was a member of Earlham Friends Church and attended the United Methodist Church at New Virginia.

He was preceded in death by his wife; a son-in-law; four brothers, and three sisters.

Surviving relatives include two sons, Bruce Beals and wife Golda of West Des Moines, and James M. Beals and wife Corinne of Cedar Rapids; a daughter, Belva J. White of Osceola; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
