CHARLES BASS DIED FRIDAY

Charles A. Bass, a life-long resident of the Winterset community, died Friday, July 5, at Memorial hospital here, after an extended illness. He was 67 years of age.

Mr. Bass was born in Madison county Nov. 11, 1900, a son of Dewitt S. and Mary Smith Bass. He was married Dec. 29, 1927, at St. Joseph's Catholic church in Winterset to Dorothy Leveke, who survives him.

Mr. Bass spent his early life in farming. In recent years he had been a saleman.

He was a life-long member of St. Joseph's Catholic church in Winterset, and was one of the founding member of the Pope John XXIII fraternity of the Third Order of St. Francis here. He served as the first prefect of that fraternity.

Mr. Bass' only son, Sgt. Charles William Bass, U.S. army was killed in action in Vietnam in November, 1965.

In addition to his wife, he leaves a daughter, Jane, now Mrs. Gary Heichel of New Haven, Conn.; three grandchildren; and two brothers, George and Gene Bass, both of Winterset.

Rosary was recited Sunday evening from the Wilson Funeral home here. Requiem Mass was celebrated Monday at St. Joseph's Catholic church by the pastor, Msgr. John W. Higgins. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
