Mabel Barnett, Earlham

Mabel Edith Barnett, 88, of Earlham died Aug. 17, 1997 of respiratory failure at Earlham Health Care Center. Funeral services were held Aug. 30, 1997 at Bear Creek Friends Church in rural Earlham with Pastor Sharm Easton and pastor Keith Smith officiating. Burial was at Bear Creek Cemetery in rural Earlham.

She was born Feb. 24, 1909 on the family farm near Adel to Samuel and Daisy Hutzell. She graduated from Earlham High School and was married to Willard Barnett on June 6, 1928 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. She was a member of the Bear Creek Friends Church where she had served as church treasurer, Bible school teacher and held offices in the U.S.F.W. Ladies organization.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons; two sisters; seven brothers; one grandson; and one great-grandson.

She is survived by her husband; two sons, Bob and wife Loretta of Stuart and Darwin and wife Karen of Earlham; one daughter Sharon Duffey of Adel; three sisters, Arol Fiscel and husband Roscoe of Adel, Ethel Melton of Adel, and Violet White of Des Moines; two daughters-in-law, Margaret Jones of Redfield and Janeann Barnett of Morris, Ill.; two sisters-in-law, Eleanor Hutzell of Algona and Maudie Applegate of Earlham; two brothers-in-law, Sheldon Strong and Russell Applegate, both of Earlham; 14 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
