Clyde Barnett, Earlham

Clyde A. Barnett, 88, of Earlham, died of cancer Jan. 19, 1995 at the Madison County Hospital in Winterset. Funeral services were Jan. 24 at the Bear Creek Friends church. Burial was at the Bear Creek cemetery.

He was born in Red Deer, Alberta and had lived in Earlham since 1908. He was a retired farmer and a member of the board of directors for the Earlham Farmers Cooperative Elevator. He was a member of the Bear Creek Friends Church.

Surviving relatives include one brother, Willard Barnett of Earlham; one sister, Maudie Applegate of Earlham; three grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Bear Creek Friends Church or the American Cancer Society.

Clyde A. Barnett

EARLHAM-Funeral services for Clyde A. Barnett, 88, of Earlham were held Jan. 24, 1995 at Bear Creek Friends Church with interment at Bear Creek Cemetery, rural Earlham. He died of cancer at the Madison County Hospital, Winterset, Jan. 19, 1995.

The son of Bert and Effie Barnett, he was born Nov. 27, 1906 on a farm in Red Deer, Alberta, Canada. The family moved to the Bear Creek area when he was 1 1/2. He graduated from Earlham High School in 1926. After graduation, Clyde and his brother Willard worked on the family farm and were in partnership from 1929 to 1932. On June 13, 1931 he was united in marriage to Bernice Mapes in Rock Island, Ill. They had one son, Gerald A. Barnett. Throughout their married life they lived in the Bear Creek neighborhood where Mr. Barnett continued farming until his retirement.

He served on the Earlham Elevator Board and was a lifetime member of the Bear Creek Friends Church where he served as trustee and held many other offices.

Mr. Barnett was preceded in death by his wife, son and parents. He is survived by a brother, Willard, and a sister, Maudie Applegate, both of Earlham; three grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
