Bob Barnett, Stuart

Bobbie Gene Barnett, 72, of Stuart, died July 29, 2004. Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 2, at Bear Creek Friends Church in rural Earlham with Pastor Dallas Gilreath officiating. Burial was at Bear Creek Cemetery with military rites performed by Earlham American Legion Post No. 158.

Bob Barnett was born Dec. 30, 1931, in rural Dallas County to Willard and Mabel Barnett. He was a 1950 graduate of Earlham High School. Following graduation Bob worked the wheat harvest from Kansas to New Mexico. He also was employed by the Bernard Nichols family of Alton, Kan. On Nov. 26, 1955, he married Loretta Ann Hood of Newton. Following several moves, they purchased a farm near Stuart, where they resided for the past 31 years. A farmer, he also had worked for the Redfield bean plant and the Maytag Corporation in Newton. He also was a veteran of the Korean War.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Marvin and Harold Barnett.

He is survived by his wife, Loretta of Stuart; one son, Christopher Barnett of Des Moines; one daughter, Kimberly Shaw of Stuart; and one grandchild.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Kuhn Funeral Homes of Dexter, Earlham and Redfield.
