CLARA E. YOUNG DIED THURSDAY

Life-Long Resident of This Community Was 84 Years of Age

Mrs. Clara E. Young, member of a prominent Winterset family, died Thanksgiving night, Nov. 24, at the Madison county Memorial hospital in Winterset. She was 81 years of age and had been ill less than a week.

Mrs. Young was the widow of Myles Young, Jr., whose death occurred in 1930.

Mrs. Young was the former Clara E. Snyder, daughter of Samuel and Judy Blair Snyder, a pioneer family in this county. Her father was the first rural mail carrier in Madison county.

She was born here March 9, 1871, and spent her entire life as a resident of this community. She was married to the late Myles Young, Jr., and they started housekeeping in the residence on West Jefferson street where she spent the remainder of her life.

Since the death of her husband, she had been president of the M. Young and company grain elevator in Winterset.

She is survived by two sons, Myles Young, III, and Blair Young, both of Winterset; a sister, Mrs. Jessie Mardis of Winterset; three granddaughters, Mrs. Vanna Lee Cook who is now in Ulm, Germany, with her husband who is in the U.S. armed forces, Meredith Young, a student at Simpson college in Indianola, and Susan Young, at home; and two grandsons, Noel Young, who is stationed in the Panama zone with the U.S. armed forces and Robert M. Young, a student at Coe college in Cedar Rapids.

Funeral services were held Sunday from the First Presbyterian church in Winterset, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. George DeF. Fisher. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
