Ernest "Buck" Barnes, Redfield

Ernest "Buck" Barnes, 75, of Redfield died of cancer March 17, 2000, at his home.

A memorial graveside service was held Monday, March 20, at Harper Cemetery, Redfield.

Buck Barnes was born June 14, 1924, to Elgy and Fern (Rhoades) Barnes of rural Redfield. A resident of Redfield for most of his life, he spent his childhood years in Stuart. He married Mona Nelson on Nov. 30, 1946, in Hiawatha, Kan. Buck was a retired truck driver for Arrow Transport in Des Moines. A Marine veteran of World War II, he was a member of the Redfield American Legion.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter and a sister.

He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Pat Barnett of Irving, Texas; three sisters, Jean Roby of Morganton, N.C., Creta Wigton of Dexter and Judy Waltz of Winterset; a brother, Howard Barnes of Dexter; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Hospice of Hope, 2423 Willis Ave. Perry, IA 50220.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Fisher Funeral Home in Redfield.
