MRS. ALICE GROVES Dies at 99 Years

Mrs. Alice Groves of Winterset, oldest resident of Madison county, died Tuesday, March 24, 1953, at the Peterson Nursing home in Winterset. She was 99 years of age and had been bedfast for the past seven years.

Mrs. Groves was born Jan. 18, 1854, at Burlington, Iowa. She was the former Alice Edmondson, daughter of James and Mary Edmondson. She came to Madison county with her parents when she was 3 years of age, and since then this community had been her home.

She was married June 10, 1876 to Joseph Z. Groves. They were the parents of 10 children. Six of the children, preceded the mother in death. Mr. Groves died about 10 years ago.

She was a member of the Legion auxiliary of Winterset, of which she was a Gold Star mother. She was a charter member of Woodman lodge, serving as its chaplain at the time it was disbanded.

She is survived by a son, Frank Groves of Los Angeles, Calif.; three daughters, Mrs. Alice Kelley of Des Moines, Mrs. Myrtle Foster and Lena of Winterset; nine grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; and one great great granddaughter.

Funeral services will be held this Thursday from Anderson's home for funerals, conducted by the Rev. Glenn Parrott, pastor of the Winterset Methodist church. Burial will be made in the Winterset cemetery.
