Daisy Barnes, Truro

Daisy L. Barnes, 99, of Truro, died April 27, 1996 at her home. Funeral services were April 29 at the United Methodist Church in Truro. Pastor Sandra Mercer officiated the services and burial was at the Young Cemetery in Truro.

She was born April 3, 1897 in Truro to John H. and Frances (Young) Muselman. She attended school in the Truro school system, completing her education in 1912. She married Isam (Ike) K. Barnes at Osceola on June 28, 1916. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Truro and served as organist for 25 years. She was a long-time member of the United Methodist Women. She had also served as Truro librarian for 25 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sons; one granddaughter; one great-granddaughter; one son-in-law; and four brothers.

Surviving relatives include one daughter, Esther Neidt of Truro; two, Glenn Barnes and wife Donna of Waterloo, and Kenneth Barnes and wife Virginia of Reinbeck; 14 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

DAISY L. BARNES

Daisy L. Barnes, the youngest of six children of John H. and Frances Young Muselman, was born April 3, 1897, in Truro and died April 27, 1996, at her home in Truro. She was 99.

She attended school in the Truro School System, graduating from the 10th grade in 1912.

She married Isam “Ike” Barnes on June 28, 1916, at Osceola. The couple became the parents of five children. Mr. and Mrs. Barnes lived in Truro except for 12 of their 50 years of marriage when they lived in Minnesota.

Mrs. Barnes, a beautiful musician, played the piano and organ. She was organist at her church for many years. She said many of her happiest hours were spent at choir practice playing the organ. Her musical talents have been inherited by her children and many of her grandchildren.

Mrs. Barnes was an avid gardener. She said she “hoed a lot of troubles away” as she worked in her flower garden.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ike; sons, Harold and Carroll; granddaughter, Diane Barnes Stearn; great-granddaughter Natalie Weidner; son-in-law, Joe Neidt; a sister Adeline Muselman and four brothers, Ralph, Rufus, Elmer and Harrison Muselman.

Mrs. Barnes is survived by her daughter, Esther Neidt of Truro; two sons, Glen Barnes and his wife, Donna Barnes, of Waterloo and Kenneth Barnes and his wife, Virginia Barnes, of Reinbeck; 14 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.

Services for Mrs. Barnes were April 29, 1996, at the United Methodist Church in Truro, Pastor Sandra L. Mercer officiating. Musicians were Doris Johnson and Karen Hansen. Congregational hymn was He touched Me. Vocalist Larry Smith sang Precious Memories and the bill ringer was Carl Beeler.

Casket bearers were David Barnes, Kenny L. Barnes, Robyn Barnes, Tom Chase, Bill Gay, Bob Hansen, Allen Johnson, Bob Kidd, Mike Radl, Jeff Stamitodes and Scott Weidner. Interment was in Young Cemetery in Truro with arrangements by Kale Funeral Homes of Osceola and Truro.

TRURO

Daisy Barnes died April 27 following a 10-day illness. Her granddaughters, Karen Hansen and Kathy Weidner of Council Bluffs were here April 23 to spend the day with her. Hansen returned again the following Friday.

April 28 callers in the home were Jim and Phyllis Mooberry and David Mooberry (niece and nephews) and Leonard and Audrey May of Des Moines; Dean and Ruth Hart, Lyle and Mary Hart and Dwight Hart of Winterset; Pat Dutton, Mary Phillips, Julie Brownlee, Doris Johnson, Dauryne Berch, Jeannne Minard, Darina Woolery, Helen Elben, Louise Beeler, Ward Lane and his daughters, Darla and Kay; grandson and family Robyn and Jody Barnes, Brett and Lauran of Azle, Texas and Robert Hansen and Jodi Hansen of Council Bluffs.

Other family members who arrived for visitation Sunday at Kale Funeral Home were Kenneth and Virginia Barnes, Konnie Neal, Ryan and Beau, of Reinbeck; Kenny L. and Judy Barnes, Sara and Kenney Edwin of Independence; Mike and Kay Radl, Jamie and Jennie of Guttenberg; Allen and Marva Johnson, Marci Long of Ankeny; Galen and Bonnie Freel, Rob Owen, and Julie Balsinger of Elkhart; Marti Birchmeir of Maxwell; Kathy and Scott Weidner of Council Bluffs; Jason Weidner of Kansas City; Chris and Linda Hansen, Steven, Tasha and Caitlin of Elkhorn, Neb; Stan and Hazel Wickett, Veryl and Kay Wickett, Keith Wickett and Darlene Wickett of Indianola.

Bob and Pam Kidd and Nick, Jeff Samatiodes, Edna Blessing, Dave and Sandy Barnes, Allison and Stacey, and Kris Butterfield, Matthew and Danny of Waterloo; Tom and Penny Chase, Abbie and Steve of Des Moines.

Family members present the day of the funeral were Don and Pam Muselman, Sharon and Cheryl Fletcher, Odessa Muselman, Jan VanWinkle and Trenton Carson of Osceola; Tom Bryan, Ruby Bryan, Catherine Doyle, Anita Zipatriek and Bill and Terry Gay of Des Moines; Carmen and Nona Souder of Jefferson; and Merrill and Beula Lamm of Ogden.

Glenn and Donna Barnes of Waterloo arrived Saturday evening. Shortly after he arrived, he became very ill and was rushed by Lifeflight to Des Moines General Hospital. He was hospitalized until the next Friday when he was dismissed to return home.
