Elsie M. Piatt, 93, died April 29 of a heart attack at Madison County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services were held Thurs., May 2 at the First Christian Church with Pastor Leonard Leslie officiating.
She was born September 17, 1897 in Madison County, the daughter of Annis J and David Clampitt. She attended rural schools in Madison County and the Earlham Academy and then taught school in Madison County. She was baptized in the First Christian Church, Winterset by the Rev. Davis, transferred her membership to the Early Chapel Church after moving with her parents, and after her retirement transferred back to the First Christian Church. She married Lester Piatt June 8, 1920. She was a church worker, a Past Worthy Matron of O.E.S. member of Earlham Chautauqua Club, and Earlham Garden Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, and three brothers.
She is survived by her husband; two daughters, Phyllis Shaw and husband, Dwight, and Hilda Crouse, all of West Des Moines; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Burial was at Winterset Cemetery.
