Gordon C. Standing, Earlham

Gordon C. Standing, 79, of Earlham died July 8, 1992 due to complications of emphysema. Funeral services were held Sat., July 11 at the United Methodist Church, Earlham, with the Rev. Harold Koughn officiating. Interment was a the Earlham Cemetery. Arrangements were handled by McKee Funeral Homes.

Mr. Standing was the son of Alfred and Alice Crew Standing and was born June 20, 1913 in Dallas County. He attended school at Scattergood near West Branch and Onley, Ohio and graduated from Earlham High School in 1931. He also attended Lincoln Flying School in Lincoln, Neb.

He married Marie Fry on March 1, 1933 and to this union two children were born, Sally and Jerry.

Mr. Standing’s love of flying led to his help in organizing the Earlham Flying Club. He was an active member of the Earlham Fire Department and started several businesses in Earlham. He owned and operated the Garrettville Service and Grocery Store north of Earlham, built and operated the Earlham Laundromat and retired from Gordon’s Electric and Plumbing Shop in 1972.

He is survived by his wife, Marie; daughter, Sally Russell and husband Wilbur of Earlham; son, Jerry and wife Glenda of Albuquerque, New Mexico; two sisters, Miriam D. Standing of Earlham and Eleanor A. Hutzell of Algona; also several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
