June 20, 1979JOHN THORNTON YOUNG Dies at 56
John Thornton Young of Rural Route 2, St. Charles, died Monday, June 18, 1979, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines at the age of 56.
Born on July 26, 1922, at St. Marys, he was the son of Hugh and Ida Young.
Mr. Young attended St. Marys schools and was a farmer. He also was a member and past master of the Masonic Lodge Neophyte No. 301 Consistry and the Za-Ga-Zig Shrine, both in Des Moines.
In September 1942, he was married to Velma Blackford. Their daughters Marolyn Taylor of St. Charles and Linda Young of Des Moines survive him.
Following his divorce in 1974, he married Ellen Hobbs on September 10, 1976. Their son John Thornton Young, Jr. of St. Charles survives him. Other survivors include his wife Ellen, his stepson, Andrew Steve Light of St. Charles, two grandchildren, his mother Ida Young of St. Marys; three brothers, Wayne of St. Charles and Ivan and Dean of Des Moines; four sisters, Ruby Jones of New Virginia, Ruth Duff of Norwalk, June Armbruster, of St. Louis, Mo., and Maxine Mathis of Waterloo.
He was preceded in death by his father and brother Lyle.
Services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 21, at the Webster-Kale Funeral Home in Osceola. Rev. Richard Elis of Osceola will officiate. Burial will be made at the St. Charles Cemetery with Neophyte Lodge No. 301 of New Virginia conducting.
