Death of Mrs. W. E. Ballard

The remains of Mrs. Jennie Munger Ballard were brought to Winterset, her birthplace and home for many years, for burial this morning.

Mrs. Ballard died in Des Moines, where she had lived since leaving here, on Saturday morning April 14th, after two hours' illness caused by embolism. She was the only child of the late Nelson and Jane Shaw Munger.

Her father came to Madison nearly 70 years ago. With J. T. White, he erected the woolen factory west of Winterset which was in use until it burned down in 1877. The family led in Winterset's community life during the many years spent here.

Mrs. Ballard was a graduate of Winterset high school in 1881 and married W. E. Ballard, son of the late Calvin Ballard.

When she moved to Des Moines, she allied herself with the best things; she had a large part in the administration of the Home for the Aged, was prominent in the work of the Chapter Q P.E.O., a member of the Chauncey Depew club and of the Women's club.

Mrs. Ballard gave a great deal of time to her church, the Central Presbyterian, and in all of her social community and church relations, her absence will be a great loss to her associates. Her geniality won friends easily and none were more truly her friends than those who had known her since childhood. Witty and keen minded, her advice and opinions were sought and accepted.

Mrs. Ballard is survived by her husband, W. E. Ballard and one son, Edwin of Los Angeles.

Funeral services were held in Des Moines on Wednesday afternoon and burial took place in Winterset cemetery, with a prayer service conducted at the graveside by Rev. LeRoy C. Cooley.
