Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, December 21, at 1:30 p.m. for Sylvia Mae Balius, 64, who died Saturday, December 18, 1976, at Stewart Memorial Hospital in Lake City, Iowa.
A native of Calander, Iowa Mrs. Balius was the daughter of Charles and Elen Bentley Hegwood. Her marriage to Earnest Balius took place December 11, 1945 in Bethany, Missouri. Mr. Balius preceded his wife in death on June 21, 1976.
Surviving Mrs. Balius are two sons, Earl Smith of Churdan, Iowa and Eugene Balius of Albert City, Iowa; six daughters, Darlene Frazer, Des Moines, Carolyn Staley, Joyce Staley and Beverly Molloy, all of Winterset; Lola Balius and Margie Green, Phoenix, Arizona; two brothers, Harold Hegwood, Columbia, South Carolina and Kenneth Hegwood, Jefferson, Iowa; three sisters, Goldie Hegwood, Paton, Iowa; Ruby Richardson and Betty Mull of Jefferson, Iowa; 23 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
Mrs. Balius was also preceded in death by her parents.
Rev. Charles Updike presided at last Tuesday's services.
