William J. Bailiff, Mt. Etna

Services for William Jennings Bailiff, 90, Mt. Etna, who died June 19 at the Madison County Hospital, were held Friday, June 23 at the Church of the Brethren at Mt. Etna with the Rev. Richard Queener officiating. Burial was at the Mt. Etna cemetery.

Mr. Bailiff was born Nov. 22, 1898 at Mt. Etna, the son of Peter H. and Lena McKelby Bailiff. He grew up there and operated the Jennings Oil Station of Highway 148 near Mt. Etna from 1935 to 1960.

In 1960 he moved to Winterset with his parents and in 1971 moved back to Corning and made his home with his sister, Mrs. James Mitchell until his health failed and he was confined to a wheel chair. He entered the Winterset Care Center July 1, 1974 where he resided until his death.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his second mother Ortie Bailiff, two sisters and a brother.

Survivors include sisters, Ruby Clites of Idledale, Colo.; Frances Allen of Denison, and Lulu Barker of Elk Grove, Calif.; brothers, Ross of Corning, Merrill of Golden, Colo., Lawrence of Wick.
