Wednesday, April 5, 1972Lulu Bailiff Dies at 85 Years
Mrs. Lulu O. Bailiff of Winterset died Thursday, March 30 at Madison Manor here. She was 85 years of age.
Mrs. Bailiff was a native of Clarinda, where she was born Aug. 4, 1886, a daughter of William and Phoebe Hummel Patten.
She was married in 1902 to Harvey Burnett, whose death occurred in 1905. On July 22, 1907, she was married at Corning to P. H. Bailiff. His death occurred Sept. 25, 1961.
She had lived in Winterset since 1960, coming here from Mr. Etna in Adams County.
She was a member of the United Brethren church.
She leaves seven children: Mrs. Austin Clites of Nebraska City, Nebr., Harry Bailiff of Portland, Ore., Ross Bailiff of Corning, Mrs. Frank O. Allen of Winterset, Mrs. Ellis Barker of Elk Grove, Calif., Merrill Bailiff of Denver, Colo., and Lawrence Bailiff of St. Charles; two step-children, Mrs. Jim Mitchell and Jennings Bailiff of Corning; 30 grandchildren, 54 great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren. She also leaves a sister, Mrs. Estella Muckey of Davenport; and a brother, Arthur Patten of Corona, Calif.
Funeral services were held Monday from the United Brethren church at Mt. Etna, with burial in the Mt. Etna cemetery.
