Allen Atherton, Dexter

Allen D. Atherton, 85, of Dexter died Oct. 21, 2003, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services were held Friday, Oct. 24, at Calvary Assembly of God Church of Dexter with Pastors Richard Kaiser and Jerry Evelsizer officiating. Burial was at Dexter Cemetery.

Allen Atherton was born Jan. 3, 1918, to Claude and Marguerite (Stewart) Atherton of rural Dexter. He was a graduate of Dexter High School. On May 3, 1941, he married Marie Cook in rural Dexter. He resided on the family farm his entire life and started farming at an early age. Alen had served as Union Township trustee for many years, served on the board of Dexfield Schools and was active in farmland soil and water conservation. He also was a charter member of Calvary Assembly of God Church and had served on the church board.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Marie Atherton of Dexter; three sons, Bruce Atherton of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; Mark Atherton of Iowa City and Dennis Atherton of Des Moines; two sisters, Claudia Lee Atherton of Madrid and Valory Jean Easton of Indianola; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Kuhn Funeral Homes of Dexter, Earlham and Redfield.
