Beulah Zay Anderson, the daughter of Charles J. and Mary R. McDowell Buchanan was born on a farm northwest of St. Charles, where she lived until her marriage to James Harper Anderson on August 31, 1910 and lived in St. Charles until her death the evening of August 23, 1977.
She attended country school at Ebenezer and three years of high school in St. Charles, graduating in 1907. She taught several terms at Summit Country school south of Patterson and at Ebenezer.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers: John, Chester, and Charles (Mack) and three sisters: Mabel Sayre, Clyde Mills and Martha Dawson, besides two children who died in infancy.
She is survived by her children, Charles M. Anderson, Wilma Edgar, and Alice Blair, all of St. Charles; six grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Hazel Warren of Des Moines.
As a young girl she joined the United Presbyterian Church and was the pianist until her health failed. She also belonged to the Madison County Auxiliary of Rural Letter Carriers Association.
Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 27, at the Peterson Funeral Home in Indianola, with Mr. Arthur Eady officiating. Interment was in the St. Charles Cemetery.
