BESSIE GILLESPIE Dies at 76 Years

Bessie E. Gillespie, retired school teacher and a life-time resident of Madison couny, died Wednesday, April 5, 1972, at Madison Manor in Winterset. She was 76 years of age.

Mrs. Gillespie was the former Bessie Sawhill, daughter of James W. and Clara George Sawhill. She was born in Madison county Oct. 14, 1895. Her active life was spent as a school teacher, in the rural schools of Madison county and at South ward school in Winterset.

She was married in 1922 to Raymond Gillespie, and they were the parents of a son. Mr. Gillespie preceded her in death.

She was a member of the First United Presbyterian church of Winterset, and was active in various church organizations, and the W.C.T.U.

Surviving are the son, Cecil E. Gillespie of Winterset; three grandchildren, Stephen, James and Lori Ann Gillespie; and a sister, Mrs. Bertha Dilts of Albuquerque, N.Mex.

Funeral serices were held Friday from the First United Presbyterian church of Wintersest, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. John E. Fink. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
