DEATH OF BODE SCHNAU OCCURRED ON THURSDAY

A Native of Germany, He Had Lived in Madison County Since 1902

Bode Schnau, a Madison county farmer since 1902, died at the Winterset hospital last Thursday after more than a year of failing health. Death was caused by a heart attack. He was 80 years of age.

Mr. Schnau was a native of Germany, where he was born at the town of Holterfehn, on Nov. 24, 1859. He came to the United States in 1884, and in 1902 came to Madison county, where he settled on a farm east of Winterset. On this farm he spent his life in this county, until last year, when failing health had forced him to move to Winterset. He had been at the local hospital several weeks prior to his death.

Mr. Schnau never married and leaves no known relatives, although he is thought to have had relatives in Germany. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in early life, and his funeral services were conducted Friday by a pastor of that church, the Rev. C. Lilie of the Trinity Lutheran church in Jefferson township. The services were held at the Anderson home for funerals in Winterset, and burial was made in the Lutheran cemetery in Jefferson township.
