Virgie J. Allen, Winterset

Virgie J. Allen, 69, of Winterset died of pneumonia July 2, 1999, at Madison County Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 6, at Ochiltree Funeral Service in Winterset with the Rev. Ramon Runkel officiating. Burial was at North McDonald Cemetery (Jefferson Township) in Madison county.

Virgie Allen was born Jan. 4, 1930, in Madison County to Ancil and Nellie (Hart) Field. She attended Winterset schools, graduating in 1947. She married James D. Allen on Oct. 28, 1948. Virgie had been employed with the Iowa Department of Human Services for 28 years, retiring as a supervisor for the Madison county office in 1991.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and two brothers.

She is survived by two daughters, Vicki Dickinson (husband Dick) of Prole and Linda Thomsen of Des Moines; three sons, Jim Allen and Merle Allen (wife Karen) both of Norwalk and Bud Allen (wife Kim) of Winterset; three sisters, Sara Hewitt (husband Red) of San Francisco, Calif.; Madelyn Wald (husband Ed) of Winterset; and Wilma Baker (husband Dwight) of Des Moines; one brother, Dean Field (wife Marianne) of St. Joseph, Mo.; eight grandchilden and five great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the North McDonald Cemetery Association (Jefferson Township) or Madison County Elderly Services.
