Donald M. Young, 73, of Winterset, died Aug. 17, 2005, at his home.
A memorial service was held on Saturday, Aug. 20, at the Macksburg United Methodist Church. Burial was at the Moon Cemetery in Macksburg, with military honors performed by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8142 and the American Legion Post 184 in Winterset.
Donald was born in Madison County, on Dec. 7, 1931, the son of Earl E. and Vera (Jennings) Young. His marriage to Barbara Fuller took place on Aug. 31, 1952, in Madison County.
Donald was a lifelong area resident and was a farmer most of his adult life. He served his country during the Korean War while enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign War Post 8142, Winterset, the Macksburg United Methodist Church and the Macksburg Bar Coffee Club.
He was preceded in death by his father, Earl and a grandson, Josh.
Donald is survived by his wife, Barbara of Winterset; his mother, Vera Young of Winterset; two sons, Kenneth Young and wife, Julie of Grinnell and Bryan Young and wife, Jacque of Des Moines; three daughters, Denise Kirkland and husband, Ronald of Macksburg, Vikki Weeks and husband, Dale of Winterset, and Barbi and Brian Kirscher of Lorimor; two brothers, Bill Young and wife, Ruth of Winterset and Eddie Young and wife, Gail of Pacific Junction; two sisters, Enolia Buck and husband, Sam of Winterset and Sheryl Griffith and husband, Thomas of Seattle, Wash.; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandson, Austin.
