Services for Sylvia Belle Allen, 79, Independence, Mo., who died April 16 at her residence were held Saturday, April 20 at the Collins Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary Worsham officiating. Burial was in the Winterset Cemetery.
Born in Madison County Feb. 21, 1906, she was the daughter of William and Lutie McDonald Bruett. She lived in Winterset the first 18 years of her life and worked as a beautician in Des Moines.
On Dec. 3, 1945, she married George Allen of Independence.
Survivors include a son, George Allen Jr. of Independence; brothers, John and Clark, both of Des Moines; sisters, Georgia Wright and Berniece Schwab, both of Winterset, Louis Trout of Minneapolis and Margaret Alexander of Kansas City; and three granddaughters.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and three brothers.

WINTERSET, IA – Sylvia Allen, 79, of Independence, Mo., formerly of Winterset died of a heart attack Tuesday at her home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Collins Funeral Home here, and burial will be in Winterset Cemetery.
Mrs. Allen was a former beautician.
Survivors include a son, George Jr. of Independence; two brothers, John Burett and Clark Burett, both of Des Moines; four sisters, Georgia Wright and Berniece Schwab, both of Winterset, Lois Trout of Minneapolis and Margaret Alexander of Kansas City, Mo.; and three granddaughters.
Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
