STERLING ALLEN DIES AT AGE OF 52 YEARS

Sterling Allen, formerly of Winterset, died last Friday, Dec. 4, in Des Moines, where he had lived in recent years. Death followed a sudden heart attack. He was 52 years of age.

John Sterling Allen was born in Warren county Jan. 30, 1912 a son of Melvin and Cora Bell Allen. When he was a small boy he moved to Winterset with his parents, and his early life was spent here. He was a graduate of Winterset high school.

During World War II he served in the U.S. Army.

He was married at Little Rock, Ark., on Sept. 4, 1942, to Vera Thornhill, who survives him. He also leaves three children, Patricia, who is attending college at Warrensburg, Mo., and Thomas and Rebecca at home. Other survivors include his mother, Mrs. Cora Brown of Winterset, a sister, Mrs. Wilma Henrich of Winterset, and three brothers, Ray Allen of Winterset, Kenneth Allen of Earlham and Bernard Allen of Phoenix, Ariz.

Funeral services were held Monday from the Dahlstrom Funeral home in Des Moines, with burial and graveside services in the Winterset cemetery.
