ALFRED R. YOUNG, Earlham

Services for Alfred Ray Young, 90, who died Monday, July 20, 1987, at the Madison Cunty Memorial Hospital, were held Thursday, July 23, at the Earlham United Methodist Church. Burial was in the Earlham Cemetery.

Mr. Young was born in Webster township. He was a retired farmer and a member of Earlham United Methodist Church.

Mr. Young farmed for 58 years following his discharge from the Army in 1918. He was married to Virginia Wolfe June 1, 1930. They resided in Madison Cunty most all of their married life and later moved to Earlham.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia; daughters, Phyllis Price of Carlisle, Esther Pitcock of Earlham, Mrgie Godown of Sedona, Ariz., and Shirley Annan of Carson; a son, Kenneth of Earlham; brothers, Clarence Earl and Howard, all of Winterset; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Alfred Ray Young, of Earlham, died July 20, 1987 at the Madison County Memorial Hospital at the age of 90 years. He was born December 16, 1896, the oldest son of Hugh and Lilly Young in Webster Township in Madison County.

In his early manhood, he served his country in the Army in 1918. Upon completing his military service, he took up farming and was to follow this successfully for 58 years.

He was united in marriage to Virginia Wolfe June 1, 1930. They resided in Madison County most all of their married life. In 1969 he retired from farming at which time he and his wife Virginia moved to their present home in Earlham.

Alfred was a member of the Earlham Methodist Church and a member of the Earlham American Legion.

He is survived by his wife Virginia; five children, Phyllis (Mrs. Herbert) Price of Carlisle, Iowa, Esther (Mrs. Leonard) Pitcock of rural Earlham, Margie (Mrs. Dean) Godown of Sedona, Arizona, Kenneth Young and wife Flo of rural Earlham, Shirley (Mrs. Gary) Annan of Carson, Iowa; three brothers: Clarence, Earl and Howard Young, all of Winterset; 12 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Thursday, July 23, 1987 at the United Methodist Church, Earlham, Iowa, with Reverend Robert Farr officiating. Organ music was provided by Gretchen Brittain. Pallbearers were W. Wayne Young, Bill Young, Billy Algreen, Marvin Eivins, Norman Bennett and Dale Young. Interment was in Earlham Cemetery, Earlham, Iowa.
