Oral Allen, Van Meter

Oral Allen, 89, a lifetime resident of rural Van Meter, died April 12, 2003, at West Bridge Care & Rehabilitation in Winterset.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 15, at McCalley Funeral Home in Adel. Burial was at Booneville Cemetery.

Oral Allen spent his entire life prior to retirement farming on the family farm near Van Meter. He also drove a school bus for the Van Meter School District for many years. Oral was a member of the Van Meter Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents: his wife, Alice, two brothers, Henry Allen and Virgil Allen; four sisters, Ruth Breheny, Ethel Davis, Goldie Schrader and Myrtle Trindle; and an infant twin brother and sister.

He is survived by three daughters, Diana Emerson of West Des Moines, Linda Marquardt of DeSoto and Rhonda Rausch of Mesa, Ariz.; a sister, Ione Wissler of Waukee; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
