JOHN ALLEN OF WINTERSET DIES

Visiting Wife at Rochester; Stricken by Heart Attack

John C. Allen, a well-known Winterset retired farmer, died Saturday, Jan. 28, at Rochester, Minn. He had gone to Rochester to be with his wife, who was a patient at a hospital there, and was stricken with a fatal heart attack.

Mr. Allen was 82 years of age. He was born at Dexter on Sept. 11, 1878, a son of James C. and Emily McVey Allen. His active life was spent in farming, most of that time in Webster township of the county. He had lived in this county for 45 years.

He was married here on June 11, 1919 to Maude Givan who survives him.

He was a member of the Bethel United Presbyterian church in Winterset.

In addition to his wife, he leaves two daughter, Esther Allen of Des Moines and Ada Banks of Winterset; a niece, who was reared in their home, now Mrs. Eileen Friday of Toledo; two grandchildren; a sister, Emily Allen of Omaha; and a brother, Will Allen of Mr. Ayr.

Funeral services were held this Tuesday from the Bethel United Presbyterian church in Winterset, conducted by the Rev. Howard L. Church. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
