Delene Honnold, 72, of Winterset died Feb. 27, 2006, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, March 2, at the First Christian Church in Winterset with Pastor Terry Kerr officiating. Visitation will be held from noon to 8 p.m. today (Wednesday, March 1) with the family present from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Collins Oak Park Chapel in Winterset. Burial will be at Lorimor Cemetery.

Delene Honnold was born Aug. 13, 1933, to Merrel and Loraine (Lathrop) Thompson of Arispe and was a 1952 graduate of Winterset High School. On Sept. 14, 1952, she was united in marriage to Bill Honnold at the First Christian Church in Winterset. Delene had been a teacher’s aide at Winterset Junior High and also worked at Shawn’s Furniture in Winterset. A lifetime resident of Madison County, she had been a member of Foursquare Gospel Church in Winterset where she served as Sunday school teacher and leader of the women’s group. She also was a member of the Oak Grove Community Church.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Lavonne Beebe, and a granddaughter, Sara Michelle Smith.

She is survived by her husband, Bill, of Winterset; four sons, Bill Honnold and Shawn Honnold, both of Winterset, Jeremy Honnold of North Carolina and Dan Honnold of Des Moines; two daughters, Christy Nelson of Maumee, Ohio, and Cindy Smith of Lexington, Ky.; a sister, Merlene Dovenbarger of Nebraska; two brothers, Paul Thompson of New Virginia and Dean Thompson of Pennsylvania; and 12 grandchildren.
