Mrs. Emma Easter

Emma Ford, daughter of William Minor and Diana Ford, was born, November 6, 1881 on a farm near the West Star church, a farm on which she spent all of her life with the exception of a few years in the West. Here her girlhood days were spent and here she grew to womanhood.

She was married to Josiah Easter who preceded her in death over a year ago. Into their home ten children were born. One died in infancy and another at the age of about twelve years. The children who survive are Miss Lenna Easter of Washington, D. C., Mrs. Ada McCorkle of De Soto, Mrs. Mildred Benjamin of Los Angeles, California, Ersie Easter of Cedar Falls, Frank Easter of Truro, Mrs. Grace Frazier of Chicago, Illinois, Mrs. Olive Dodson of Washington, D. C., and William Easter of Winterset. There are seventeen grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Mrs. Easter has been a member of the West Star church since the days of early girlhood. With her husband they spent some years in Kansas, Nebraska and Oklahoma, but she did not move her membership away from this church. Her father was one of the men who helped to build the West Star church. The services originally were held in Stringtown and it was there that she united with the church.

She was a lover of her home and it was there that she invested her life. She knew how to do all the things that pioneer women do to save money and yet keep the family well and respectably clothed. To rear to manhood and womanhood these daughters and sons is a contribution to her day of which any woman might well be proud.

She died at Winterset, on October 30. Had she lived until the sixth of next month, she would have attained her 74th birthday.

Funeral services were held at the West Star church on October 31, conducted by Rev. M. R. Talley of the Winterset Methodist church assisted by Rev. E. E. Garrett pastor of the West Star church. Burial was made in the Stringtown cemetery.
