St. Charles

Rachel Matilda McCullough was born at Rising Sun, Iowa, May 24, 1857. She was married to John Corsbie, November 4, 1877.

To this union four children were born, three sons, Ivan of Van Wert, Walker of Winterset and one daughter, Mrs. Ernest Allen of near Winterset, eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Corsbie died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Allen of near Winterset, November 23rd, 1930, aged 73 years, 5 months and 29 days.

She was a member of the M.E. Church. The funeral was held here in the M. E. Church November 25th at 2 p.m., conducted by Rev. Art Reed of the West Star, Worthington Churches.

Burial was made in the St. Charles cemetery, by the side of her husband. G. A. Neal, J. L. Stayton, H. A. Mueller, H. P. Anderson, J. D. Clanton and Walter Brown were the six pallbearers.

Rachiel M. Corsbie

Rachel M. McCullough, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alexander McCullough was born May 2, 1857 near Rising Sun, Polk County, Iowa, departed this life November 23, 1930, at the age of 73 years, 5 months, 29 days, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Bertha Allen near Winterset. She grew to womanhood near Rising Sun. On November 4, 1877 she was united in marriage to John W. Corsbie. To this union was born four children, three sons, one daughter. She with her husband and family moved to Madison county in the spring of 1892 on a farm near Elm Grove Church and with her husband and daughter united with that church. Her husband and one son preceded her in death. She leaves to mourn her departure two sons, Ivan S. of Van Wert, J. Walker of Winterset, one sister, Mrs. George Herrick of Bridgewater, Iowa. Eight grandchildren, two great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at the M. E. Church at St. Charles Tuesday, November 25 by Rev. A. R. Weed. Burial in St. Charles cemetery.

Death Mrs. Rachel Corsbie

Mrs. Rachel Corsbie, of St. Charles, who had been visiting relatives in this community, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. E. M. Allen, Sunday, November 23rd, shortly after two o’clock. Mrs. Corsbie became ill, with pneumonia, and complications, while she was a guest of her daughter, and was not able to be taken to her home.

The deceased was 73 years of age, and was born near Rising Sun. She came to this county, with her husband, John W. Corsbie, in 1892, and they made their home on a farm in the Elm Grove neighborhood. Mr. Corsbie died 21 years ago. His widow moved to St. Charles seven years ago.

The Rev. A. R. Weed conducted the funeral services at the Methodist church in St. Charles, Tuesday, November 25th, and burial was made in the St. Charles cemetery. She is survived by three children, two sons, Ivan of Van Wert and J. Walker Corsbie of Winterset, and Mrs. Allen of Winterset. She also leaves a sister, Mrs. George Herrick of Bridgewater, who was here to attend her services.
