Death of Mrs. J. M. Alexander

Following a long illness, Mrs. J. M. Alexander died on Thursday at her home in Winterset, aged 67 years. Creeping paralysis was the disease that caused her death. Funeral services were held on Sunday at the United Brethren church in Union township, conducted by Rev. Jackson Giddens.

Mrs. Alexander was a daughter of the late Jonathan Cox, an old resident of this county. Mr. Alexander and seven children survive her.

Mary Elizabeth Alexander

Mary Elizabeth Cox Alexander was born in Vigo county, Indiana, February 28, 1852. During her infancy her parents moved to Madison county, Iowa, where she grew to young womanhood.

In 1870 she was united in marriage to Joseph Alexander and to this union were born eight children. Mrs. Otto Kaehler, O. W., Fred, Gertrude, deceased, Sam, Ernie, Mrs. Hugh Schoen, Mrs. Austin Woods, all of Madison county.

Mr. and Mrs. Alexander lived on the farm until four years ago when they moved to Winterset.

When a girl 14 years of age she was converted and united with the Methodist church in Winterset of which she was a member at the time of her death. She lived a Christian life and found comfort and grace in her faith and hope in Christ.

For the past three years she has been so she could not get around and was confined to the house. Her condition gradually grew worse until on May 8, she passed away, her age being 67 years, 2 months and 20 days.

She leaves to mourn her loss the husband, seven living children, 25 grandchildren, one sister, two brothers, other relatives and many friends.
