Edith Algreen, Winterset

Edith E. Algreen, 88, of Winterset, died of pneumonia Sept. 8, 1996 at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held at the Dexter United Methodist Church in Dexter on Sept. 12 at 2 p.m. The Rev. Kathy Sides will officiate the services and burial will follow at the Dexter Cemetery. Visitation is Sept. 11, 1996 at the Kuhns Funeral Home in Dexter from 2-8 p.m.

She was born in Fairplay, Mo., on Nov. 5, 1907 to Henry Ira and Della Mae (Wilson) Smith. On April 24, 1925 she married Vern Algreen. She was a homemaker and had lived in Fairfield, Mo., Earlham for 3 years, Dexter for 65 years, and for the last 4 years she lived in the Winterset area. She was a member of the Dexter Methodist Church, Methodist Women; Dexter 20th Century Club; Navy Mothers and the Dexter Iris Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, two brothers, two sisters and three grandsons.

Surviving relatives include her husband of Winterset; two sons, Donald Algreen of Earlham, and Lonnie Pete Algreen of Martensdale; two sisters, Zona Hamilton of Lakeside, Calif., and Mabel Cronk of Shirland, Ill.; one brother, Raymond Smith of Bolivar, Ill.; seven grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be directed to the Dexter United Methodist Church.
