George B. Hatfield

George B. Hatfield was born in Fayette county, Ohio, May 9, 1837, and died May 9, 1907; aged 70 years. When a young man he came with his parents to Benton county, Iowa, in 1856. He was married to Elizabeth Sherry on March 22, 1860. To this union six children was born, five boys and one girl; two of the boys died in infancy. He enlisted in the 28th Iowa infantry in 1862, and served through the war. He moved to Madison county in 1893, and to Valley Junction in 1905.

He was a Mason in good standing for 45 years, having been made a Master Mason in Benton City lodge No. 81, in the year 1862. He demitted from that lodge and became a charter member of Madison lodge No. 568 of Earlham. When he moved to Decatur county in 1902 he called for his demit and became a member of Temple lodge No. 170 of Garden Grove.

The funeral service was held last Saturday afternoon at the home of his daughter, Mrs. E. E. Lapella, under the direction of Madison lodge No. 568. Rev. Demit of Valley Junction preached the sermon. Interment was in Worthington cemetery.
