MRS. WM. F. MARQUARDT

Esther Emma Bernau, daughter of Sarah and Herman Bernau, was born in Jefferson township, Madison county, Iowa on July 27, 1881, and departed this life suddenly in her home on May 31, 1955 at the age of 73 years, 10 months and four days.

She spent her entire life in this community, in fact, she was a resident of this very township from birth to the time of her departure.

She was baptized, confirmed, and married in our own Trinity Lutheran church at Van Meter. She served as church organist, was a charter member of the Ladies Aid Society, and served as its first president, and in all respects played a very active role in the affairs of her congregation.

On February 17, 1901 she was united in marriage to Mr. Wm. F. Marquardt. To this happy union were born three children, Ernest, Fernanda and Esther Emma, who preceded her in death at the age of three in 1810.

In 1951 Mr. and Mrs. Marquardt with relatives and friends were privileged to celebrate the golden anniversary of their marriage.

She leaves to mourn her passing her bereaved husband, William, two children, Ernest A. of Earlham, and Fernanda Lobstein of Minneapolis. Also five grandchildren, Jane, Barbara, LeRoy, Lyle and Judy, and one great grandchild, James Robert Gaasedelen, and many other relatives and a host of devoted friends.
