6-YEAR OLD BOY STRICKEN FATALLY

Winterset Boy Becomes Ill Suddenly While at Play Sunday

Michael Duane Alcorn, 6-year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Alcorn of Winterset, was stricken suddenly with a fatal illness while playing at the home of his parents Sunday afternoon, and died shortly after at Memorial hospital in Winterset.

The child had been in apparent normal health. After eating dinner Sunday noon he went out to play, and returned some time later complaining of stomach cramps. He was taken to a doctor's office here, but by that time was in shock. He was taken to Memorial hospital where he died shortly after arrival.

The boy's body was taken to Des Moines Monday for an autopsy to determine cause of death. The autopsy indicated death was caused by a ruptured spleen. A tumor, apparently benign, was found on the liver also. Dr. Paul Eggleston, county medical examiner, expressed the opinion that the tumor could have ruptured the spleen if the boy jumped of fell hard while playing.

The little boy was a son of Eugene and Hazel Sirdoreus Alcorn. He was born in Iowa City Dec. 14, 1960, but had lived all his young life in Winterset. With his parents, he attended the Foursquare church here.

In addition to his parents, he leaves two brothers, Larry Alcorn of the U.S. navy, and Donald Alcorn at home; two sisters, Linda and Donna Alcorn, at home; paternal grandparents, John Alcorn of Buffalo, Mo., and Mrs. Josephine Clement of West Plain, Mo.; and a maternal grandmother, Mrs. Nora Sirdoreus of Winterset.

Funeral services were to be held this Wednesday at 2 p.m. from the Winterset Foursquare in charge of the pastor, the Rev. Charles Updike. Burial was to be made in the Winterset cemetery.
