Pfc. Randall L. Farlow, a recent graduate of Winterset High school, was killed in action in Vietnam on Tuesday, Sept. 17, 1968, according to word received by his mother, Mrs. Eleanore Hiskey of Lee township.
The young soldier was 19 years of age, and had graduated from Winterset High school with the class of 1967. He had been in the U.S. army about 18 months, and in Vietnam since last January.
Private Farlow was stationed near Da Nang, where he was serving as a supply truck driver with the 39th Engineer Bn., U.S. Army. He was leaving a supply base when hit by hostile fire.
Private Farlow was born in Iowa City May 16, 1949, a son of the late Myers Farlow of Winterset and Mrs. Eleanore Hiskey, who now lives near Booneville. Most of his life was spent in Madison county. He attended Van Meter High school, and Winterset High school, graduating here with the class of 1967.
He is survived by his mother, his step-father, Harold Hiskey of near Booneville; three brothers, Eldred Farlow of Bensonville, Ill., Jerry Farlow of New Hartford, and Kenneth Farlow of Dike, and two sisters, Mrs. Dayna Decker of Lorimor and Linda K. Farlow, at home. He is survived also by his grandmothers, Mrs. Mae Farlow of Akron, O., and Mrs. Nell Harriman of Kanawha.
The body will be returned to Winterset, to the Collins Funeral home, and is expected to arrive in about a week.
