Winterset businessman, Harry E. "Pete" Stevens died Tuesday, Aug. 18, 1981, at the age of 52. He was associated with the Allen Shoe Store for 40 years and purchased the store in 1966.
He was born Sept. 9, 1928, in Creston, the son of Emil E. and Velma Breese Stevens. He married Thelma Secrest on Sept. 19, 1948, in Winterset.
A lifetime resident of Winterset, Mr. Stevens served on the Fair Board for 10 years and the Winterset Development Commission for six years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Chamber of Commerce.
Survivors include his wife, Thelma, mother, Velma Stevens, daughters, Sheryl Neri and Karen Stevens, all of Winterset; three brothers, Eldon of Miami, Fla., Jack of Liberty, Mo., and Larry of Des Moines; one sister Marilyn Gentry of Red Oak, Iowa; and one granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Services were held Friday, Aug. 21, at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Byron Ayers officiating. Interment was made at the Winterset Cemetery.
