Fern Algreen

DEXTER-A funeral for Fern Algreen, 88, of Dexter was held March 16, 1991 at Penn Center United Methodist Church near Earlham. Mrs. Algreen died of a stroke on March 14 at Bethesda Care Center at Winterset. Burial was at the Penn Center Cemetery.

The daughter of Guy W. and Ora A. Morford Lenocker, she was born near Dexter on July 20, 1902. She married Bruce T. Algreen on Sept. 23, 1924. She lived most of her life in the Dexter area, moving to Bethesda Care Center nine years ago. She was a homemaker and a lifetime member of the Penn Center Church and a member of the Golden Rule Club of the Pitzer Church.

Mrs. Algreen was preceded in death by her husband; by a daughter, Marie; by her parents; and by four brothers, Paul, Fred, Jasper and Robert.

Survivors include two daughters, Dorothy Ault of Sound, Fla. And Margie Alexander of Winterset; one son, Ronnie Algreen of Dexter; a brother, Ray Lenocker of Dexter; two sisters, Mary Shields of Alexandria, Va. And Ruth Loftis of Aurora, Colo.; 13 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Gertrude Fern Lenocker Algreen, the daughter of Guy W. and Ora A. Morford Lenocker, was born July 20, 1902 near Dexter, Iowa. She lived most of her life near Dexter, spending the last nine years at Bethesda Care Center, Winterset, Iowa where she passed away March 14, 1991.

On September 23, 1924 she and Bruce T. Algreen were united in marriage and to this union four children were born.

Fern was a lifetime member of the Penn Center Church and a member of the Golden Rule Club of the Pitzer Church.

Fern enjoyed cooking and baking and her many grandchildren. She liked having people stop for coffee and cinnamon rolls.

She was preceded in death by her husband Bruce; one daughter, Marie; her parents and four brothers, Paul, Fred, Jasper and Robert.

She is survived by her three children: Dorothy Ault of Hobe Sound, Florida, Margie Alexander of Winterset, Iowa and Ronnie Algreen of Dexter; thirteen grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; one brother Ray Lenocker of Dexter, Iowa; two sisters, Mary Shields of Alexandria, Virginia and Ruth Loftis of Aurora, Colorado, many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted on March 16, 1991 at the Penn Center United Methodist Church, rural Earlham, Iowa with Reverend Nova Wells and Reverend Robert Farr officiating. Organ music was provided by Marcella McCleary. Pallbearers were Michael Graham, David Alexander, Dan Alexander, Jeff Alexander, Greg Alexander and Bruce Algreen.
