Irene M. Anker, Winterset

Funeral services for Irene M. Anker, 99, were held Fri., July 26 at Earlham Friends Church. She died July 23 at Bethesda Care Center where she was a resident.

She was born in Elliot April 28, 1892 to Charles and Effie Souders, and most of her early life was spent in Elliot and Altantic (Atlantic). She married James L. (Roy) Anker March 18, 1909. Most of her married life was spent in and around DeSoto and Earlham, moving to the nursing home in Winterset in 1980. She was a homemaker and member of the Earlham Friends Church, Friends Ladies Aid, Friendly Circle, and American Legion Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one brother, three sons, four grandsons and three sons-in-law.

Surviving are four daughters, Opal Ganoe of Winterset, Thelma Hunt of Earlham and Maxine Jungman and Jean Cook, both of Adel; three sons, Merle of Florissant, Mo. And Earl and Charles, both of Earlham; a sister, Alice Riley of Montezuma; 20 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Burial was at Oakland Cemetery, DeSoto. Memorial contributions may be made to her church or the Earlham Rescue Unit.
